HICL was the first infrastructure investment company to list on the main market of the London Stock Exchange, raising the target £250m at its IPO in March 2006.

At launch, HICL gave investors access to an initial portfolio of 15 infrastructure projects which had been developed and managed through their construction phase by the infrastructure team at InfraRed Capital Partners. Consistent with HICL's investment approach, all projects in the initial portfolio were long-term, availability based concessions with public sector or government-backed revenues.

From IPO to 30 September 2017, the Company has raised approx. £2.0 billion through subsequent equity issues. It is the UK's largest listed infrastructure investment company, with a current market capitalisation of c. £2.8 billion and daily liquidity of c. 4.0 million shares. The size of the portfolio is now over 100 investments across various sectors, including education, health, and transport infrastructure, both in the UK and overseas.
